Tamarack Beach Resort Hotel

Nothing went well. My husband and I were unable to spend any nights at the Tamarack Beach Hotel. In addition to the fact that the room was run down, the air conditioning did not work. Hotel staff brought in a portable AC unit, but there was no venting of the exhaust to the outdoors, so it just circulated the hot air from the back. The room went from 75 degrees around 4:00 p.m. when we checked in to 77 degrees when we returned from the event we were in the Carlsbad area for. After the portable AC was in the room, the temperature went up to 79 degrees at 11:00 p.m. at night when it was cooler outside. After speaking to the front desk for the third time about the problem, we asked to leave and were given permission by the man behind the counter on 10/10/2026. The man at the front desk said we would receive a full refund from Booking.com, but when I called Booking.com tonight, they had no knowledge of a pending refund.

Beach directly across the street and being able to walk to the heart of Carlsbad Village. It was an older hotel. Could use some updating.

Pros: on site parking; beach across the street; walkable to Carlsbad Village and many coffee shops and food. room overall was good as far as having a decent bed and TV with channel options and a desk/chair that seemed neat. Cons: Our bathroom, however, had hairs in the sink and tub upon arrival. The room we had was a bit dated and could use additional hooks in the bathroom (for towels/toiletries). Overall: I would probably stay here again but I would definitely check the bathroom first thing so if there is an issue, I can have them address it right away. I was already settled in to the room so I ended up just using my disinfectant products and cleaning those areas myself, which was not ideal.

Don’t stay here! I don’t know how this place has a 9.2 rating. It was one of the worst hotel rooms I’ve stayed in. We had reservation for 3 night and checked out after the first night. Lobby smelt musty but the roomed smelled even worse—old and musty. The caulking in the shower was black. The carpet looked 20+years old, the granite countertops were old and mismatched and the lightening was terrible. There was a window facing the outside corridor that provided no light and allowed guests to see in. It was dark, dreary, and hot. The AC was so loud I had to turn it off to sleep. The walls were paper thin and the elevator next to the room was very loud. It was overall a horrible night. Note it’s a timeshare and only the bottom floor are hotel rooms so perhaps the timeshare rooms are better but I wouldn’t take the chance getting a trim like we had. The pics online are deceiving.

Loved everything, except breakfast, only hot item was waffles, bacon and sausag.

Great location, friendly staff, get the ocean view- it’s worth it! Comfy beds. Will stay again!

This hotel is the best for beach access and viewing the sunsets! The noise in the room is very loud with the refrigerator and AC.

I didn’t like my room. Old and tucked away, Construction on the hot water boiler started at 0700hrs. No hot water. The property was clean and the staff behind the scenes were great.

This was our first time staying here. Great location, walkable into Carlsbad village, ocean directly across the street. Great sunset views from the solarium deck. Breakfast was average, and the bed not the best we've ever slept on but not unbearable. Overall we would stay here again. The Fleming's Visalia, CA.

Great location, lovely room, comfortable bed, clean bathroom and living room, super view of the ocean - who could ask for more? We plan to return to this lovely resort!!

Nice big room with a beautiful view of the ocean. Room was clean and property maintained nicely. Definitely coming back. Directly across from the beach and .3 miles from shops and restaurants in the village.

The beach close but the pool was a bit cool.

Needs major updating. For being such an expensive place to stay, we were not very impressed with the amenities, the room, the service and definitely not the breakfast. Room: Nice view of the ocean but dated room, shower was average at best, small TV, The house keeping staff were by far the friendliest and most helpful people there. Staff: Front desk staff were incredibly unwelcoming and unfriendly. Again for being a "Beach Resort" I would think they would really emphasize friendliness. The lady that makes the breakfast in the morning (waffles) was also very unfriendly. Breakfast was a joke and again, for how much people spend to stay there, you would think they would at least change it up day to day instead of just having waffles, bagels, bacon/sausage, packaged danishes, cereal and coffee. It was literally the exact same thing every single day. They are attached to a restaurant. Maybe they should work out a deal to provide at least a halfway decent breakfast. All in all we had a nice trip but I will say that this will be our first and last day at the Tamarack.

They could provide a better breakfast, but otherwise we had a great stay. Relaxing room overlooking the ocean! Can’t beat that!!

If you want a nice place to stay just steps from the beach, this place was wonderful. Parking was free as was the breakfast. I got an ocean view room but wasn't quite expecting the traffic right outside my window. I had a really nice patio and view of the beach I could almost touch, but the main coastal road was right there so you were mostly listening to traffic. Unfortunately, I could also hear cars and motorcycles going by all night while trying to sleep, but if that kind of noise isn't an issue for you, it's a gorgeous location, really lovely staff, and a comfortable clean room right near Carlsbad Village.
