Residence Inn by Marriott Berkeley

Rooms spacious and clean, valet staff were great and overall really enjoyed our stay

First, I've been a member of the Marriott Rewards program since 2012, have stayed at many Marriott hotels. The Berkeley hotel is modern, clean hotel but only average value. Reserved a room with two queen beds and living room with fold out couch and kitchenette. The "living room" was smaller than it appeared in the hotel photo gallery, but adequate. Bathroom sink is in small hallway between living room and bedroom, overhead light was out, making it difficult for me to shave and my daughter to put on her makeup. Immediately tried to call the front desk, but phone didn't work. So, I had to call the hotel from my cell phone. We were there 3 days (arrived Friday, checked out Sunday), no one ever came to change light bulb. There is a free continental breakfast, typical eggs, bacon, etc. Food very blah. Coffee very disappointing. Room price was a little on the high end due to it's proximity to Cal Berkeley Univ. Hotel is ok, but I won't be staying there again.

The internet speed is extremely poor and needs significant improvement. The quality of service from the team is somewhat inconsistent. While some team members are excellent, friendly, and very helpful, others can come across as robotic and less willing to assist. The breakfast selection and overall quality could also be improved. Addressing these areas would make the overall experience much better.

Great location to walk to the campus. My child was doing a summer program at the campus and it was a 5 min walk to class. Room was spacious with a sufficiently stocked kitchen (small stove, refrigerator, couple of pots/pans, silver etc) where we did cook a couple of meals. Breakfast was very good and kids/tween/teen friendly, variety of options hot and cold. It was extremely convenient to grab a quick bite before heading out for the day. Plenty of vegetarian food options near the hotel for lunch/dinner. Highly recommend.

The room had a nice feature of 3 spaces with sliding doors (although gaps so no noise insulation). Good for our party of parents and 2 teens. No sink with toilet but used shower on low to wash hands

Parking was very expensive. The breakfast buffet was very nice. The towels did not smell clean and were well worn.

Great hotel and staff

Kelly, who checked me in, was incredible. So friendly, kind and welcoming. She totally took care of me was very helpful. I would come back just to stay there! From Kelly and the staff’s genuine kindness and helpfulness to the great breakfasts and the gym!

Overall experience was great, staff were super friendly and nice, rooms were clean and very nice, the only thing I did not like was the ice room, it needs ventilation too much moisture and smelly. Would definitely stay there again.

I wish there was a restaurant in the hotel. The breakfast service is like a school cafeteria, busy with a lot of commotion, not pleasant. The 12th floor bar had very limited menu based on World Cup events: just snacks. No amenities: no concierge, newspapers or gift shop. See above comments also.

Excellent breakfast. Reasonably comfortable bed. Valet parking overnight is excessively expensive.

I stay at this hotel every summer, and I want to give a big shout out to the front desk manager, Chauncey, for making every visit such a positive experience whenever she is on duty. Her professionalism and willingness to help make all the difference. It’s rare to meet a manager like Chauncey who is so present, approachable, and genuinely committed to delivering outstanding customer service. The small bedroom I stayed in this time had a bit of a funky smell and could have used better ventilation. Other than that, I had another enjoyable stay.

Valet is great, breakfast unbelievable, staff is the best!! Fitness center is top notch. You won't find a better place to stay!
