Surfside Motel

Great water view rooms and clean facility

Howard Beach is close to JFK airport and the Surfside Hotel was in the right place for a very reasonable price. So we knew before arriving that the room would not be anything special. And it wasn't. It's old and rundown and everything in it needs an update. However, it served its purpose for us and we got a decent night's sleep. The parking is free and convenient and the area is quite nice. The real downside was that despite many signs all over the hallways, people were smoking what smelled like both cigarettes and marijuana. Pretty stinky. But of price is an issue, it is okay for a night before or after a flight, and the Howard Beach Air Train station takes you directly to the airport. It is a bit to far to walk from that station to Surfside Hotel with luggage.

Like : Pleasant river side view, plenty of car parking Dislikes : Stinks of weed, no toileteries except wafer thin tiny bits of soap. Two small towells that were dank and musty. No proper chair just round low to the floor padded stools. Toilet required several flushes to dispose of you know what !!! Also, significant aircraft noise from JFK

The room was clean and comfortable only problem I had there was no refrigerator

nice old motel, clean, quiet, has all well maintained basics, but only the basics. A comfortable bed, a dresser with drawers, night stands and lamps. Small bath with tub. Fast wifi. Ample parking. Nice view. Near JFK. That's all. No desk and chair for work. No coffee maker forhot drinking water. No closet to hang my coat andshirts..No shuttle. Taxi or Uber to or from JFKcost $25-30. A grocery store nearby. A very good Asian restaurant next door. Italian restaurants walking distance.

Value for money

The staff were very helpful.

Clean and peaceful and it's near a lot of restaurants great place to stay.

ultimately, the stay was very accomodating in regards to expense, convenience and staff the amenities are intact and warrant additional stays.

Smoke smell

1. not a fan of the smoking in the rooms. 2. I think a better locking system should be updated ( keys in 21st century) lol.

Perfect for what I needed: very basic, fair price, convenient parking, and real close to JFK. Joe at the front desk was helpful with a great attitude.Support stores next door.

This place is old school. My room was very clean. Staff was very friendly. Had a nice room overlooking the back canal. Plenty of food choices close. Would I stay there again ?? Definitely !!

HORRIBLE MOTEL SMEEL SMOKE AROUND.THE ROOMS ARE DIRTY MANY FRUGAL COUPLES CAME IN AND OUT EVERY TIME. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL

I enjoyed the experience

People talking kind of loud in the hallway at 2 am, not really the motels fault. Good inch of light under the (hollow?) door. Heater dirty like dryer lint (most hotels have this problem). Everyone I interacted with at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The view of the water and the breeze from the water is really great! Make sure you get a room facing the water not the street. A bit expensive for what you get but right now what isn’t expensive for what you get? Bit of a mixed bag. Good enough if you are easy going and flexible, not good enough if you are picky/ particular.

I enjoyed my restful nights sleep. Will definitely stay here again.🙂
