Candlewood Suites Newport News/Yorktown by IHG

Overall I was very pleased with things at Candlewood. My experience with Booking.com was less than desirable. I needed to cancel my reservation, and booking.com said it could only be canceled if Candlewood would grant an exception for the no cancellation reservation I had booked with booking.com. Candlewood did grant me that exception, but booking.com, upon being informed that the exception had been granted, did not cancel the reservation leaving me on the hook for the full charge of the room.

No breakfast, cleaning only every 7 days.

Staff accommodating and friendly. We did however have an issue with a microwave that did not work. They offered to switch rooms but we opted not to. It was also suggested to use microwave down n the lobby. I thought that the breakfast should have been included instead of offering items that were $2.00 for a muffin. Overall, this was the second time we stayed here and will probably return.

The check-in staff was very friendly and it was a quick process. Room has what you need if want to eat in and there is a Kroger within 5 minutes from the location.

Pleasant and professional staff. Clean facilities and nice location. The room was huge, clean and stocked for an extended stay. There is construction across the street they are demolishing an old movie theater.

Staff, Abigail, was especially welcoming, warm, and friendly on arrival, during, and John was very helpful on departure The beds were clean and comfortable. The space was large enough and cozy. Thank you. Travel well.

There were 4 of us and the room was very spacious. There was a closet in each of the two bedrooms and a nice size closet in the kitchen/foyer. The kitchen was nice with a large table and a good size pantry. We had three TV's and lots of amenities, We had free use of washers and dryers and a workout room. The staff were always very friendly and very helpful. Free good coffee was always available with lots of condiments. There were snacks, drinks, necessities, & food available for reasonable prices. I would definitely stay there again.

Great location, room was spacious, check in was quick, very quiet stay. Room could have been a tad cleaner. Red marks on comforter and on wash cloths. Really the only complaint. Would definitely stay again.

The staff was very polite however,, the room we stayed in was pet friendly in which we were not aware of and when we arrived the smell was horrible and we were told it was because of the carpet cleaning. The carpet was wet our entire four day stay. The sheets were damp so we had to use the hairdryer to dry them ourselves. Light bulb was out in the bathroom and the water pressure in the shower was not conducive for showering. We were in a handicapped accessible room and we did not need that. By the second day the smell of animals reeked through the room. Our stay was not pleasant at all.

Great! Ok, let me give you a little advice. Forcing people to provide a written response vs a check box is a horrible idea and it ruins the ultimate validity of your survey. Please feel free to reach out to me or my company and we can absolutely help Candlewood suites design your surveys so the data is actionable and can be used for continuous improvement. Right now, you are not getting the information you need and it is also highly likely that it’s invalid.
